Fulcrum's Racing Quattro Carbon Disc wheelset is brilliant for fast riding and thanks to Fulcrum's many innovations regarding durability, they can be ridden in a range of conditions all year round if needs be. Fulcrum have balanced these wheels exceptionally, they are lightweight and reactive, whilst also being strong and durable. With a 40mm depth front and back these rims present a nice balance between being aerodynamic and not being overly susceptible to cross-winds. The rims are made from uni-directional carbon fibre weave, for enhanced stiffness and therefore reactivity and strength. The internals of the rim and the braking surface are made from 3K carbon fibre. Not just relying on superior quality materials for strength, Fulcrum use their MoMag technology to produce a uniform rim without any spoke holes, which is stronger and doesn't require rim tape, reducing weight and aiding convenience.
Fulcrum engineer the spokes on their disc brake wheels differently. Both wheels have a two to one spoke ratio, with the front having 14 on the disc brake side and 7 on the non-braking side. The rear wheel has 14 spokes on the drive side and 7 on the non-drive side. The spoke distribution on the front wheel, helps to keep the wheel stable and centred during aggressive front end braking. This also benefits the wheels longevity, helping it to deal with the extra strain disc brakes can put on a wheel. On the rear wheel the spokes distribution enhances power transfer and longevity, supporting the extra torsional forces that pass through the the drive side of a wheel. The additional pull a rear wheel experiences on its drive side automatically help to stabilise braking forces. For the same reasons, the flanges on the disc brake side on the front wheels hub and the drive side on the rear wheels hub are oversized. These efforts make the Racing Quattro Carbon disc a sturdy and balanced wheelset, with optimal performance when transferring power and braking.
Fulcrum really do love spokes and further spoke engineering on these wheels includes their exclusive spoke and rim coupling system, whereby the spokes are distributed and tensioned perfectly evenly to best support the rim. Fulcrum's engineers have designed exclusive spoke housings for their hubs, ensuring that the spokes will never lose their initial tension, boosting the wheels longevity considerably and keeping the spokes in optimal aerodynamic position too. The hubs have high quality adjustable steel bearings, perfect for the tough conditions the British climate can throw at wheels. The freewheel is made from plasma treated aluminium, which is especially hard wearing, meaning it can be thinner and lighter. Exceeding all the criteria a good wheelset should meet, Fulcrum Racing Quattro Carbon Disc Brake wheels can be put to use in many ways. Hardy enough for extensive gravel bike usage but also smooth, stiff and aero enough for road riders and racers. One of the finest choices out there for any disc bake bike.
