Whyte's 900 series comprises 3 of the best trail hardtails going. Made from 6061 hydro formed T6 aluminium, the 900 series frame benefits both from Whyte's MTB frame geometry and being a dedicated single chainring (SCR) frame. Whyte position the front wheel further out in front of the rider on their bikes, and slacken off the head angle to create a confidence inspiring front end, that absorbs bumps better and is more prone to self-correcting, for ultimate balance. They design their bikes with a lower centre of gravity to enhance stability at speed. However they also make sure that handling is precisely as responsive as it needs to be. They purposefully design their frames with a compact rear end to allow for sharp turning around a stable front. When The front wheel does need to be moved, it is done so with relative ease due to Whyte's very short stems and wide handlebars, which are ergonomically moulded to aid handling on their bikes. This trail-beating geometry gets another boost from being built for SCR drive. This means that the chainstays can be symmetrical and therefore stronger and lighter, than the weaker and heavier chainstays often required to accommodate awkward front mechs. Weight distribution benefits greatly as there is considerably less weight on the right hand side of the bike, the front mech, extra chainrings and cables all done away with. Overall this makes the bike lighter, making it handle and accelerate better, whilst making it more robust with less complex components to be damaged. SCR also allows for an increase in rear pivot span, which boosts stiffness and therefore handling and power transfer between rider and frame.
Keen to do such a magnificent frame justice, Whyte kit the 901 out with a range of goodies. Assisting you in conquering the toughest of runs is RockShox, Sektor Gold 130mm travel fork. This beefy suspension will help you ride over the nastiest bumps and keep your composure and speed. To make sure you're never left wanting more traction, the 901 comes with 29mm wide WTB STs rims for great coverage and grip. Not stopping there with the wheel technology, both the rims and WTB front and rear specific tyres are tubeless ready. Going tubeless offers a range of rewards for the off-road rider. Reducing the chance of punctures, shaving the weight of the inner tube and making for a low rolling resistance, tubeless systems are ideal for practical off-roaders. Further practical ingenuity comes with the 901's weather-proofing measures, in the form of BBX internal cable routing for protection from the elements and easy maintenance, Whyte's “Get a Grip” seatpost clamp, which stops mud and water from clogging your seat tube and their choice of alloy double sealed cartridge bearing hubs to keep grit out of vital bearings. Not just flashy and fun, the 901 is also dependable off-road machinery.
SRAM are responsible for both getting you going and getting you stopped on the 901. Their NX 1x11 speed drivetrain, comes with a 32 tooth chainring and a 11-42 tooth cassette, offering a great range of gears, for punching up climbs or bombing down them. SRAM's Level disc brakes are perfect for the job of getting you stopped when it matters most. The 901 comes built to perform at a seriously high level, even with it's affordable price tag. No corners were cut in optimising this bike for dominating on any trail and it's a perfect example of Whyte's top innovation's in speed, handling and robustness, meaning you can rely on your purchase to last … and put a whopping great big smile on your face!
