2018 Whyte Wessex One Lime

The Wessex was conceived to be the ideal British road bike, ready to soak up everything our inclement climate and rugged road surfaces might throw at it. The Wessex One embodies this concept in its most simplistic format. This single chainring groupset bike offers an elegant and uncomplicated riding solution, perfect for everything from commuting, to winter training and even some cheeky light gravel riding. Removing the front mech makes everything more simple, with less to break and maintain, whilst maintaining the same range of gears you've no doubt become accustomed to. The Wessex One uses SRAM's Apex 1 drivetrain, pairing a 44t chainring is with a 10-42t cassette, for an incredible range of gears. 44:10 will only spin out on descents for many riders and 44:42 is a better climbing gear than what is available on almost all 2x systems. As well as its snazzy single chainring drive, the Wessex One has all the same performance and practicality oriented features as the other 2018 Wessex models.

As the advent of single chainring groupsets on road bikes has become more accepted, so has the acceptance that wider tyres are the way to go. Granted 23c race tyres are still seen as faster on pristine asphalt in good weather conditions, but Whyte are being a bit more realistic about what it takes to be fast in Britain, with our lovely moist climate and frankly at times terrible roads. Thus the Wessex One is equipped with WTB's tubeless ready Exposure 30c tyres. The extra surface area is great for ironing out rough roads, for consistently fast rolling and giving more control in corners and adverse conditions, not to mention the improvements to comfort. These tyres are tubeless ready, as are the Wessex One's WTB i23 rims. Going tubeless is an brilliant option to have available with the Wessex One, it increases puncture resistance and allows the tyres to be ridden at a lower pressure, exaggerating the benefits to rolling and comfort on rough roads.

The Wessex One uses the same frame as the award winning 2017 Wessex, lauded for its high quality handling characteristics and suitability for British roads.
