2018 Whyte Friston Gravel Orange

Whyte have used every ounce of their mountain bike knowledge to make their gravel/adventure frame extremely capable off-road, whilst also being fast and efficient when joining the dots on road. Borrowing heavily from their multi-award winning MTB geometry Whyte's adventure frame has a long wheelbase, with a low bottom bracket and a slack head angle, promoting excellent control and stability when hammering over the rough stuff. To make sure that the frame still manoeuvres exactly as you'd want it to, Whyte equip the Friston with their own 500mm wide drop bar for increased leverage over the front wheel, so that it can be simultaneously stable and reactive. In essence this allows you to go and have fun all over the place, from tight and twisty singletrack to beautiful wide open cross country routes.

Keen to make sure the Friston is properly equipped for the job Whyte have opted for a proper off-road ready spec. SRAM have been at the forefront of producing the best 1X groupsets for road and gravel bikes for some time now and their 11 speed Apex groupset found on the Friston is a great example of this. Laugh in the face of challenging climbs with an 11-42t cassette and 40t chainring, providing an excellent gear range for gravel biking. The Apex 160mm disc brakes are the perfect companions for riding in all weather and on a variety of surfaces. Just as important as frame and groupset, the Friston does not scrimp on wheels and tyres one bit. The WTB rims are appropriately wide, strong and tubeless ready to work brilliantly with the 700x40C tubeless ready Maxxis Rambler tyres. The Rambler has great puncture protection and a versatile low profile mud tread, designed to work well on and off road. The option to go tubeless is also greatly beneficial for off-roading as it improves puncture protection, lowers rolling resistance and shaves off the weight of an inner tube. Very much a complete package ready to tear it up out of the box the Friston really encapsulates the spirit of adventure.
