2018 Whyte Glencoe Granite

The Glencoe is built on Whyte's MTB inspired Gravel/Adventure frame used by their GX series gravel bikes. This means the Glencoe shares the same geometric traits as their MTBs, a long wheelbase, with a relaxed head angle and a shorter stem and bars, producing handling characteristics originally desired for smoothing out rough trails. On the Glencoe these features are utilised to smooth out the worst of what Britain's roads have to offer. Aiding this mission is the choice of 650B wheels, making room for WTB's high volume 650x47c Horizon tyre. When this tyre is fitted to narrower rims it balloons up, rather than out, resulting in a contact patch and diameter similar to a 700x28c tyre. The outcome of this is a tyre and bike that resemble the industry standard for urban road riding, performing like a road bike on 28's on smooth roads, whilst actually having a huge air cushion for each wheel. These tyres are the perfect foil for a frame which has a penchant for stability and maintaining speed on rougher surfaces, as both work with each other to enable you to hammer over rutted sections of asphalt at speed totally in control. This bike may not have the raw pace of a super-light carbon racer on 25's but it doesn't have to hold back when the going gets rough, which on British roads is a lot of the time. The Glencoe will also deliver to your destination in great comfort, as ironing out bumps is a plus for going faster and taking the heat out of surfaces that would have previously shaken you to bits.

Maintaining the theme of efficiency and being user friendly, the Glencoe uses SRAM's Apex 1x11 groupset, with an 11-42t cassette and a 44t chainring, ensuring you have plenty of gears to choose from, without over-complicating the matter. TRP's HyRd disc brakes use a standard brake cable to actuate a hydraulically operated brake caliper, for all the power of hydraulic disc brakes, without the intricacies of maintaining a fully cable operated disc brake, win-win.
