  • Who are we?

    A bit about us

Flat Harry's mission is to be the best local bike shop in the Thames Valley area, our customer base is broad, attracting cyclists from all the towns and villages around Cookham; in a radius around us that passes through Lane End, High Wycombe and Beaconsfield, onto the Chalfonts, Gerrards Cross, Uxbridge, Windsor and Eton, through Taplow, Maidenhead, Bray and Holyport, and over to Marlow and Henley, our customers are happy to travel to find us, knowing we cater for every and any cyclist. We're mad about cycling and love it when anyone shares our enthusiasm, be they an aspiring fan of the sport, a tech hungry hard rider spinning their best speed machine, a thrill hungry mud lover, a hardened commuter battling the traffic, or a leisurely rider on a modest budget looking to have fun and relax on their bike.

Whether it's serving coffee and flapjack on the mid-ride break, fixing your tusty steed, performing a bike-fitting or providing you with the right gear for your ride, we do it all and a lot more at Flat Harry's. We are proudly independent and thus only stock parts and brands that we are passionately proud of, and believe are the most suited for cyclists coping with the flint strewn roads and trails in our area.

Our obsessive temperament, collective knowledge, engineering expertise, focus on quality and debunking of fads are what distinguish our shop, and make our customers return time and time again. Building trusting long term relationships with our customers is really important to us. Simply put, we want to be the place you trust above all others to do the right thing for you. Some folk might try and take advantage of our good nature, but we believe what goes around comes around and we want you to value our approach.

2018 Whyte 806 Compact Granite Description

  • Brand : Whyte
  • Season : 2018
  • Code : W18806
  • Weight : 0KG
  • Whyte's 800 series consists of nippy aluminium hardtails, offering a sweet blend of fun, control and speed. The 806 is the compact geometry equivalent of the 805, it utilises all the same components, with the exception of the fork and chainring, but is designed to accommodate riders with proportionally longer legs and shorter torsos, as well as coming in an extra-small size for petite riders. Updated for 2018 the 800 series now has a dedicated single chainring (SCR) frame, with every 800 series bike now running an SCR groupset, for a plethora of benefits. Removing the front dérailleur and extra chainrings means that the chainstays can be symmetrical and therefore stronger and lighter, helping equalise weight distribution and improving rear end handling and responsiveness. The removal of excess components reduces weight on the right hand side of the bike and streamlines the design with less to maintain or potentially break. SCR drivetrains offer more than adequate gear ranges with the 806's cassette ranging from 11-42 teeth with a 30 tooth chainring at the front, for capable climbing and fun descending.

The tweaks for SCR work in beautiful symbiosis with Whyte's highly regarded mountain bike geometry. Starting at the front with a slack 66.5 degree head angle and pushed out front wheel, the 800 series bikes are perfectly equipped to eat up the terrain and provide convincing stability; with a super compact rear end, aided by the SCR frame design, ensuring that snappy and reactive handling is not hindered by the long and relaxed front end. The 806's fork is upgraded from the 802, with Rockshox Judy TK 120mm fork on duty, providing great feel and dampening when you let the 806 loose on the rough stuff.

British trail bikes face a range of climatic challenges and the 806 is ready for them. Benefiting from Whyte's BBX internal cable routing technology, cables are kept weather-proof and manageable. Similarly Whyte's “Get a Grip” seat post clamp protects against the elements whilst being easy to operate so you can re-position your seat post with ease. Tektro's Auriga disc brakes provide quality braking performance in all weather conditions, helping you master the trail all year round. Whyte's double sealed hubs provide extra guarantees against the weather and WTB's tubeless ready Stpi25 rims are paired with tubeless ready Maxxis front and rear specific tyres. Running a tubeless set up offers many potential advantages, due to its improved puncture protection and rolling resistance and because it means tyres can be run at even lower pressures for greater grip. The 806 is Whyte's highest level compact-geometry hardtail, with all the tech and innovation of the top bikes condensed into a good value for money bike, ready to help you push your limits off-road anytime.
